Why can't the Depth of Discharge (DOD) of lithium batteries be 100%?

A

The cycle life of lithium batteries is closely related to DOD. With DOD increasing, the cycle life of the battery is significantly shortened.

High DOD will increase the mechanical stress of the electrode material/chemical reaction rate inside the battery and accelerate battery aging.

For extending the life of lithium batteries, recommended use DOD is usually around 80%, not 100%.
